Why We Care the Way We Care
One evening, I called my mother—her name was Grace—10,000 miles away. We had a beautiful conversation, sharing stories, laughter, and love across the distance. It was a call I will never forget. But within 12 hours, I received another call. I was told my mother had been admitted to the hospital. Just a few hours later, she passed away. It was devastating for me and my family. She was a senior, living alone, and though there were people nearby, they were not skilled or equipped to help her in her time of need. No one could have saved her life or protected her from a painful and lonely death.
Years later, my husband and I made a decision. We wanted to honor her memory by caring for other vulnerable seniors—showing them love, compassion, and dignity, and relieving their loved ones from the heartbreak I experienced.
